In Like With… Mercury Glass. The name is deceiving, there’s actually no mercury in mercury glass at all. It’s made by blowing double walled glass and then silvering in between with a silver-nitrate and grape juice solution, and it can come in a variety of colors. But classic antiqued silver is our favorite. It’s a little glamorous, romantic, vintage, and rustic all at the same time. And mercury glass is pretty much a shoo-in to add a little sparkle to any wedding. Try sprinkling in some votives on your guest tables, or a collection of bud vases on the place card table.
In Love With… Fruit and vegetables. Yes, they’re tasty, but what I’m talking about is fruit and vegetables as decor. Nothing says abundance like lush fruits and vegetables integrated in floral centerpieces, bouquets, and decoration and we love the unexpected, fresh take on it can put on an event. Think asparagus, lemons, artichokes, champagne grapes, radishes, limes, pears, cherries… the vivid colors and options are endless. Mix them in with your flowers for a subtle touch, but don’t over do it. More than two kinds of fruit or vegetables in the same arrangement might look more like a buffet for hungry cousin Chucky.
Obsessed With... Gold Cakes. It started a few weeks ago, and it peaked at the Charm City Cakes Summer 2012 Collection unveiling. I AM OBSESSED WITH GOLD CAKES. The color is timeless, can look traditional or modern, goes with most color palettes, and looks good almost anywhere (hello, Grand and Charles Ballrooms!). Whether it’s a simple gold ribbon detail adding a little *bling* to a cake, a delicate gold layer (like the CCC cake at left), or an in-your-face gold cake, I just can’t get enough of them, and neither should you.
